Why learn music production?

Producing music and audio these days has never been easier. There are a massively growing number of 'bedroom producers' creating music that sounds as if it was recorded in a high end music studio, when in reality all that is required is a laptop or computer. If you are a creative musician and have ideas of your own that you need to get out in the world, then I highly recommend learning a bit about music and audio production.

Logic Pro? Ableton? Pro Tools? Reaper? Fruity loops? What's the difference between all these different DAW's?

All DAW's serve the same purpose - to record music or sound and be able to 'mix' each track so the end result is an accurate expression and representation of your musical soundscape. At the end of the day, anything can be made using any DAW. I find Logic a little more accessible for beginners - It comes with many stock plugins and digital synths already loaded in the software and is a great all rounder for recording real instruments, using MIDI, or using samples to create musical sections.

Ableton lends itself well to electronic music and looping, however it's also absolutely fine for recording real instruments as well. It also comes loaded with its own stock plugins and digital synths however not as many as logic.

An all round experience and understanding of music

To be an effective producer, I will be teaching how to approach both the production and sound quality side of things (e.g. using audio effect plugins such as EQ, compression, saturation, reverb, delay etc.) as well as the compositional side (learning about basic music theory - Key signatures, time signatures, scales, chords, diatonic progressions, melodic phrasing etc.). Everyone has their own unique style and vision so I will tailor the lessons to suit your passions and interests.
